hi,

uhm what exactly is "taxa examen de diferenta" and for citizens having a double citizenship (romanian + another) its cheaper; is it for the baccalaureat thing? also, if you are a non-EU citizen, it's not enough to have your highschool diploma, you have to do the baccalaureat??

thanks tons.

The "examen de diferentia" applies mainly for transfered students from another university (especially from outside Romania) who  gets admitted in at least the 2nd (sophomore) year.
So, when a student get transfered, he can get the subjects he already studied in his previous university validated and get the corresponding credits.
However, there may be some subjects which are in the curriculum of UMF Cluj that the student did not study at all. He will have, during his normal period of study at UMF Cluj, to take and pass those exams. And for each such exam he will have to take, he needs to pay this "taxa examen de diferenta".
One such "exam de differentia" may be Romanian language, which is taught in the first 3 years.

Double citizenship probably means being Romania + another citizenship.

The term "baccalaureat" here does not have the same meaning as in Canada (i.e. a university degree).
It is from the french terminology which means a high-school diploma.

Smile

ps. i have a double citizenship, i think, i mean i was born i romania, but uhm yeah, im still in gr.12 so i guess the "examen de diferenta" thing does not apply
pss. also, if you can prove that you studied at least 4 consecutive years in romanian, you dont need to take the romanian enterance exam; well i went to 2 years in kindergarten & 2 years in elementary school in romania, the 2 kindergarten years probably dont count right?

haha sry, i have like a bazillion questions but they dont all come to mind at the moment.

Hi again.

About the "romanian entry exam":
From what I know and from my own experience, students enrolling in the English or French section are not required to take this exam, as the administration consider that those students (who are mainly foreigners or first-time comers in Romania) do not know romanian at all.
This is the reason Romanian language courses are included for the first 3 years of the curriculum of those 2 sections.
Of course, there may be students who are fluent in Romanian who are enrolled in the English or French sections (and actually there are some); they may be natives or expatriates of Romania (as is your case). They also have to attend the Romanian language courses since they are included in the curriculum and you get some credits for that (about 2 to 4 credits). Actually, those courses will be like a piece of cake.

I also know that foreigners wanting to enroll in the Romanian section have to take the "romanian language entry exam"; to do so they usually spend 6 months prior to that exam to take private lessons (outside of the UMF jurisdiction).
However, I don't know what are the criteria the UMF takes into consideration when someone (with the same situation as you) wants to enroll into the Romanian section.

thanks;

yeah, honestly i seriously want to call the dean and snap on him. like where am i supposed to find all this information. i called about a month ago some mrs. monica something, and to my surprise she wasn't working there, and some random lady picked up, told me to call in february because she has no clue what is going on  Confused. so frustrating. GAHH!

another quick question, or more Very Happy
how did you decide that UMF was the best uni for you??
dont you miss your home country??
i was so sure that this is where i wanted to be, but now that the "deadline" (aka feb. dum dum dumm) is coming, i am so confused??
also, how did you finance your tuition?? parents?? maybe your rich, im not, and my country, YES BELOVED CANADA, does not provide scholarships for studying abroad in romania, i have to get the scholarship from the ROMANIAN government (i read this somewhere, only about 90% sure) and so there is a chance i will not receive a scholarship, which would suck, so that is why i am asking about trying to finance school without necessarily taking a huge loan from the bank...
also, is it just STUDY STUDY STUDY like 24/7, or is there ever time to unwind a little?? are the people nice there?? i mean i know romanian people are nice, i go there every summer, but i mean, could you see yourself living there for the rest of your life or no??

sry, i am flooding your forum with my extensively long questions.
Smile
thanks tonsss, YET AGAINN  Razz
