Prospective students will find how it is difficult to get information from the administration/authorities, so this post has the purpose of providing foreign students (especially those not present in Romania) information about the UMF Cluj application/enrolment procedure...
It should not be considered as "official" (i.e. from the university administration).
University contact details are available in this post.

Again, the information you will find in this post is gathered by a small group of students to help other students because they know how it is difficult to communicate and get accurate information from the administration of UMF Cluj-Napoca.

This post will be updated whenever a change occurs or if an additional information may be useful.

Application Procedure

1. Download and fill in the Application Form for the Letter of Acceptance and send it (preferably by registered mail) to the Ministry of Education of Romania (address is written in the above section) as from April. The letter of Acceptance is the authorisation from the Ministry for the applicant to study in Romania.

2. Attach the following documents to the mail:
- A photocopy or authenticated copy of the certificate of studies (High School diploma: Baccalaureat, HSC, etc...);
- An authenticated copy of the birth certificate;
- An authenticated copy of the passport;
- A Medical certificate;
- The list of results of the completed study years (Academic Transcripts) for postgraduate studies applicants; or the list of results so far of the studies that were started in other countries for those wishing to continue their studies at UMF Cluj

3. While waiting for the answer from the Ministry of Education of Romania, starting from March/April/May, visit the official website of the UMF Cluj and look for the launch of the Application Procedure for the University Year 2009-2010. This means that you are applying directly to the UMF Cluj for studies of Medicine, Pharmacy or Dentistry. This procedure has the aim of gathering the necessary informations from all the prospective students.

Update 8 April 2009:
The university published information on the number of available seats: For the English section, the figures are 160 for medicine; 60 for pharmacy and 50 for dentistry.
Information about the application procedure and the application form were also published by the university, those interested may now download it.
Application fee is 250EUR and non-refundable; and the university fee for 2009-2010 is 5000EUR (i.e. doubled compared to last year)!

4. The final list of accepted students will be published on the university website (www.umfcluj.ro) probably during the month of August. By this time, the applicant should have also received an answer from the Ministry of Education.

5. If everything is all right, the applicant should do the visa application for his/her future travel to Romania.
This administrative task is usually done via the Embassy of Romania or Romanian consulate in your country. If your country do not host one (and this is really the case for some countries), then find the nearest country with an Embassy of Romania.
Remember than nationals from the European Union countries do not need a visa. Nationals from some other countries may also not require a visa, if such an agreement exists.

6. The university year starts on the first week of October.
Students are advised to be already in Cluj-Napoca at least a week before the start of the courses in order to be have time to complete their enrolment, find a place to stay and to start to know the town/city.
